About New Mamaa & Emily McMelon: Real Talk for New Moms
Hi, I’m Emily
If you’re reading this at 3:17 AM with one eye open, rocking a baby who swore they were sleepy ten minutes ago, let me just say first: I see you.
My coffee has been reheated three times today, there is definitely an unidentified sticky substance in my hair (is it banana? is it Desitin?), and I can’t remember the last time I finished a complete thought without interruption.
I’m Emily McMelon—founder of New Mamaa, a former market researcher who loved data and spreadsheets, and currently the Chief Operating Officer of a chaotic household managed by a preschooler named Leo who is turning 5 this year and a toddler named Mia.
I started New Mamaa because when I became a mother, I felt an overwhelming pressure to know everything immediately, while simultaneously feeling like I knew absolutely nothing.
The 3 AM Google Spiral
Before kids, I was organized. I had five-year plans. I liked clear answers.
Then, my first son, Leo, arrived. Suddenly, the “manual”—the one everyone assumes you get at the hospital—was missing.
I vividly remember sitting on the nursery floor one night in the dark, my phone’s blue light the only illumination, frantically Googling: “Is green poop normal?” “Best sleep sack for rolling baby,” and “Will I ever sleep again?”
The result was information overload. I found contradictory advice, judgmental forums, and “perfect” Instagram moms whose nurseries looked like magazine spreads. Instead of feeling supported, I felt paralyzed by choices and terrified of making a mistake.
I realized that modern motherhood isn’t just exhausted; it’s noisy.
Why I Started New Mamaa
I started this blog during my second pregnancy because I wanted to create what I desperately needed the first time around: a filter.
I wanted to build a digital village that didn’t demand perfection, but instead offered clarity, empathy, and practical solutions.
I’m not a pediatrician. I’m not a certified sleep consultant (though I feel like I’ve earned an honorary degree in it). I am a mom who is right down in the trenches with you, just a few steps ahead on the path.
I use my “researcher brain” to obsessively test gear in our home, dig into safety standards, and organize confusing information into manageable guides. I do the heavy lifting so you don’t have to spend your precious free time comparison-shopping high chairs.
My Goal for This Space
My mission for New Mamaa is simple: To help you navigate the overwhelm of the early years with confidence, and maybe a little bit of humor.
I want this site to be the friend you text when you don’t know what to do. When you land on a Gear Lab review or a Sleep Lab guide, I want you to know it’s coming from a place of real experience and honest testing.
Here is what we believe at New Mamaa:
You matter, too. Motherhood is all-consuming, but we cannot forget the person behind the “Mama” title. You deserve recovery, rest, and an identity outside of your children.
- Fed is best. Breast, bottle, combo—if your baby is growing, you’re doing great.
- There is no single “right way.” What works for my toddler might not work for yours. We provide options, not dogmas.
- You matter, too. Motherhood is all-consuming, but we cannot forget the person behind the “Mama” title. You deserve recovery, rest, and an identity outside of your children.
Welcome to the NewMamaa.com
If you are feeling lost, tired, or just need to know which stroller actually fits in the trunk of a sedan, you are in the right place.
Grab a lukewarm coffee, put your feet up (if only for a second), and take a look around. You’re doing a better job than you think you are.
Warmly,
Emily McMelon
